In Kroc’s autobiography, Grinding it Out, Kroc told of his medical issues including alcoholism and diabetes. While nearing the end of his life time, dealing with several medical conditions, Kroc continued to be dedicated working full time and seen at the office everyday. In the October of 1975 Kroc was hospitalized for heart problems that he had constant problems with his entire adult life. In Grind It Out he wrote "My mind is constantly working, and when my body doesn't corporate with my mind its very frustrating. I constantly have new ideas for McDonalds and it's just a matter of how efficiently i can put them out there. Only time will stop me from working on this company" Kroc poured his life into his company and it has become his legacy.
Ray Kroc's original vision and the tenacity that he followed it, is as apparent as ever today in the world. More then over half of the workers working today in America got their first job at McDonald's. This is a testament to how Kroc's ingenious system that he implemented into McDonald's allows for a constant change in staff. This strategy is influential to almost all chains today. The scale of McDonald's is mind boggling to say the least. 10 months after Kroc's unfortunate death in the January of 1984 McDonald's sold it's 50 billionth burger. As of April 30th 2010 McDonald's has sold 247 billion burgers. Thats nearly equivalent to 31 burgers per every human alive on the earth right now. Ray Kroc's unique vision for McDonald's and the efficiency it would provide allowed McDonald's to grow into one of the biggest companies of all time in the world and still continues to grow today.
In the book, “The Story of McDonalds” by Sara Gilbert, she writes “But while the other fast-food franchises were being swallowed up by corporate conglomerates, McDonald's had stayed true to its core business principles. As the fast-food landscape changed, the commitment to quality and customer service that had been part of the business from the beginning proved to be its greatest strength.”(24). Ray Kroc’s values and qualities are reflected in the company and amplified to the world’s revolutionizing the food business. Kroc’s famous values are QSC and V, Quality, Service, Cleanliness, and Value. Kroc once said “If I had a brick for every time I’ve repeated the phrase QSC and V, I think I’d probably be able to bridge the Atlantic Ocean with them.” Kroc has ingrained these principles into his company and are still seen today in McDonalds and many companies alike.
